The Nile is one of the world’s great rivers and has brought life and wealth to Egypt from ancient times, bringing fertility to the land with its annual floods and providing a reliable means of transporting goods and people. The ancient gods of Egypt traveled on the river, taken from their temples on feast days by their priests, and ancient Egypt’s pharaohs too traveled the Nile in their elaborate barges; now you too can travel the route that Cleopatra sailed on her Royal barge, first with the great Julius Caesar and later, with her lover Mark Anthony.

During the latter half of the 19th century, members of the European aristocracy and other sophisticated travelers would cruise the Nile in the comfort of their stylish, private ‘Dahabiya’s’; these were beautifully crafted wooden ships with from four to ten cabins and came complete with a host of servants. They rented the boats for several weeks at a time and made their way from temple to temple enjoying the views of the Nile and the cool river breezes. Dahabiya’s were popular amongst those who wished to enjoy Egypt at a leisurely pace, to drink in the unique and timeless Egyptian landscapes, and enjoy the sights of the monuments and villages on the banks of the river – these are the classic views of Egypt, experienced by so many ancient and modern travelers. Traveling by Dahabiya is a unique, peaceful and relaxing experience, and have added one more element to this experience – luxury!
